The
Peacock is a favorite bird on many coats of arms and symbolic of personal
pride. During the days of chivalry, one of the most solemn oaths were
taken "on the peacock." It seems that almost since the beginning
of recorded history, man has domesticated ornamental peacocks and
spread them around the world. They originated from the jungles of
Southwest Asia along the Asian eastern and northeastern shores of
the Mediterranean Sea, in the Tigris-Euphrates Basin, in far-flung
desert oases, and along the lower mountain slopes of Iran south of
the Caspian Sea. They spread to India and from India, they spread
eastward to Borneo and Sumatra. The gorgeous ocelli or "eyes,"
are composed of bands of blue, purple and green feathers, upon the
tail and wings of the peacock. |

Feathers are excellent as home decor and special occasion decoration.
They are so gorgeous they can stand alone in a vase. For more variety
you can include them in an arrangements. The long peacock feathers
look great in a vase with young growth cherry wood branches, bamboo,
or with a silver branch variety such as birch wood branches. They
are also fantastic as part of a floral arrangement. Pictured right
is a gorgeous arrangement of long peacock sticks, palm leaves, bird
of paradise, bells of Ireland, lavendar,
